Compass Effect (“the app”) is published by Chad Kanera (“we,” “us”). It is a book companion for The Compass Effect by Rhiannon McFarling. This policy describes how the app handles information. We designed Compass Effect to work without an account and without selling your data.
Summary
- We do not operate user accounts.
- We do not sell personal data or use third-party advertising analytics.
- Journal entries, notes, and companion content you create stay on your device. We do not operate a Compass Effect cloud account for that data.
Information stored on your device
The app stores the following locally to provide its features:
- Journal and companion entries — text you write, progress markers, and related notes tied to the book experience.
- Preferences — such as theme, onboarding completion, and display settings.
- Purchase / unlock state — whether you unlocked the app through Apple (if applicable), stored locally after StoreKit verification.
This data lives on your device using Apple’s standard on-device storage (for example SwiftData / App Group containers as implemented in the app). We do not transmit journal or companion content to our own servers, because we don’t operate any for this app.
Purchases
If Compass Effect offers an in-app purchase or paid unlock, it is processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We do not receive your payment card details. Apple may collect information according to Apple’s Privacy Policy. The app may store a local flag when a purchase is verified so unlocks remain available offline.
Data we do not collect
- Name, email, or contact information (unless you email us for support).
- Precise location.
- Contacts, microphone input, or your full photo library (unless you later choose a system feature that only shares what you pick).
- Advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking.
Sharing and disclosure
We do not share your journal entries or preferences with third parties. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.
When you use system features such as Share or Copy, you choose what to send and to which app.
Children
Compass Effect is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data retention and deletion
Data remains on your device until you delete entries, clear app data, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes on-device app data from that device.
Security
Data is protected by your device’s operating system. Compass Effect uses standard Apple APIs and does not implement a separate cloud backup of your journal in the local-first design.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
